Galen Therapeutic Program
The Ideal Alternative:

We believe the ideal situation for providing mental health services for young persons is to treat them in or close to their home communities. Because we understand that it’s not always possible to do so, we offer an alternative program that combines education and a therapeutic residential program in Galen, Montana.

Situated on 90 acres between Anaconda and Deer Lodge in the scenic Deer Lodge Valley, the intensive therapeutic program at Galen takes advantage of a rural setting to provide a family-style living experience while allowing residents to receive appropriate treatment and education.

The Intensive Residential Behavioral services at Galen are designed to help children maximize their ability to care for themselves and develop appropriate behaviors that will enable them to live successfully in their communities.

The Galen program includes its own school. This allows residents to continue their education and receive individual instruction that is so important to their success. The public school provides a full range of therapeutic support in alliance with the Deer Lodge elementary and high school districts.

The population at the Galen program includes adolescent boys and girls ages 12 to 18 who are affected by serious emotional disturbances. The program uses a four-bed group home model. Students may be dually diagnosed with borderline IQ or with mild cognitive delays.

Recreation

Not only is Galen an ideal place for clients to receive treatment and learn, it is also an excellent location for recreational opportunities. Youngsters can participate in softball, fishing, hiking, swimming, and bicycling in summer and sledding, skiing, and snowboarding in winter. They can also join in a variety of activities in Anaconda, Deer Lodge, and Butte, including sporting events, hanging out at the library, bowling, shopping, and dining out.
