Charity Symonds

Director of Residential Developmental Disability Services

About Charity

Charity oversees the quality delivery of services to individuals across the state in AWARE’s residential, supported living, and learning centers. She ensures programs meet goals in alignment with AWARE’s philosophy of care while operating within regulatory frameworks.

Charity brings nearly 30 years of experience in education and human services. She began her career tutoring incarcerated youth in the California youth court system and later worked for many years as a para-professional in public schools, supporting students from preschool through high school in special education settings. After completing her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis in 2012, she taught in special education classrooms.

After moving to Montana, Charity continued teaching before joining AWARE, where she has held multiple roles, including Residential Coordinator in a transition group home in Great Falls and Program Director. She later completed her master’s degree and became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, serving as a Service Administrator supporting AWARE’s ABA services.

Charity’s passion for this work started early. Growing up, she spent time in the special education classrooms where her mother worked as a para educator and later became a teacher. From a young age, Charity learned that people from every background and ability deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and she finds joy in sharing that commitment with others.
