When it comes to getting around town or even our big state of Montana, it takes a fleet of vehicles to carry the people we serve and our team safely from one destination to the next. Maintaining a fleet of vehicles is no small task.
According to Fleet Manager Ron Knight, AWARE currently cares for 139 fleet vehicles consisting of vans, sedans and SUVs. The vehicles are divided among Anaconda, Billings, Butte, Great Falls, Helena and Missoula where AWARE provides services.
Most of the vehicles are service line related and transport clients to and from work/day services, appointments or community outings. About 30 of the vehicles are available for other AWARE business.
To help with the maintenance of the vehicles, a program is in place to ensure each of the cars are road safe and receive regular maintenance like oil changes and tire rotation.
This year, AWARE replaced five sedans with SUVs to be used by the FACT team. In addition, 30 new vehicles are ordered and on the way to replace the older vans. The new vehicles will also add to the fleet, supporting the increased need of additional transportation by staff.
During the last couple of years, AWARE has chosen to upgrade some of its vehicles to SUVs, like Ford Expeditions or Ford Escapes. In part, the SUVs are more friendly for the Montana winter driving. But also, the vehicles provide a sense of normalization for the adults and children as living members of the community.
