AWARE Welcomes New Medical Director

Updated: Sep 8, 2023

AWARE is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Kathryn Brogan, who recently joined the organization and will serve as AWARE’s new Medical Director.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Brogan to the AWARE team. Her extensive experience and demonstrated commitment to the people she serves makes her an excellent addition to our team. I look forward to having her expertise and leadership as we continue to grow and expand the community-based mental health services we offer Montanans,” AWARE’s CEO Matt Bugni said.

Dr. Brogan is a medical doctor and double board-certified Adult and Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist. In her role as Medical Director, Dr. Brogan will lead the team of medical/psychiatric practitioners at AWARE and will collaborate with the rest of the leadership team to ensure high-quality, evidence-based patient care, and will advocate for mental healthcare access for Montanans. As a practicing psychiatrist, Dr. Brogan allies with patients and families to create and realize comprehensive, person-centered wellness plans.

On why she chose AWARE, Dr. Brogan said, “Disconnection and disenfranchisement have always threatened our wellness as individuals and a human race, and recent factors like the pandemic and political polarization have only intensified this issue. One of my core values is our shared humanity – it’s easy to forget that we are all cut from the same cloth and depend on each other for our very survival, let alone our happiness. I chose to serve as medical director here because AWARE embodies the essence of community-based mental wellness through its services, culture, advocacy, and community outreach. I want to be part of that.”

Dr. Brogan earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine before completing her Psychiatric Residency at Northwestern University and her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Utah. Dr. Brogan was elected as Chief Fellow for the latter portion of her training. She has held former positions as a psychiatrist in various settings for patients of all ages and has held leadership roles including head psychiatrist of an adolescent psychiatric unit.

Dr. Brogan is also involved in the Big Sky Chapter of AACAP and the Montana Psychiatric Association. She is the official delegate for both societies on the state and national level, advocating for Montana patients and families. Dr. Brogan is passionate about teaching the upcoming generation of mental health practitioners and engaging with community members on mental health issues.
