Our friend Dean is passionate about old cars and trains. Not only does he regularly draw and color them on paper, but also, he has quite the model collection - 40 cars total.
He was excited to invite us over to his AWARE home to show off some of his favorites.
Pictured is what Dean calls the “primo” of his collection, including the 1960 GTX Plymouth convertible and a 1966 Pontiac GTO.
Dean recently acquired the 1960 GTO model kit for his birthday, which was in March. He bought the car and some movies from Amazon with money he received as a gift for his birthday.
Visiting with Dean, you would think he is an expert. He was professional and enthusiastic about presenting his models.
Dean really knows his cars and trains. He likes to talk about the details that any expert would understand – engines, tires, body parts.
When he's building his car models, he likes to customize them. Disregarding the model car directions, he'll add parts or accessories. For example, he added an engine to his GTX and tires to his GTO.
Dean says he is a Wisconsin native who moved to Montana years ago. Pizza Hut Meat Lovers pizza is one of his favorite meals.
During the summer he likes to watch drag races at the local racetrack. He says the cars are “loud,” but you get used to the noise while you’re there.
He likes to go bowling with “the guys” from the AWARE homes across town when they ask him to go.
Dean is also employed at AWARE’s distribution center where they gather grocery orders in the warehouse and then deliver them to the group homes on a weekly basis. He purchases model cars and trains with his well-deserved paycheck.
