Dance Company Brings Creative Movement to AWARE

AWARE has partnered with Cohesion Dance Project to help the people we serve stay active and express themselves through creative movements. For the last one and a half years, Cohesion has been traveling to different AWARE locations to walk students through movement classes that allows them to move in ways they might not move otherwise. 

 The classes build creativity and expand the imagination while allowing opportunities for individual growth in self-confidence and self-esteem. Each session is also an opportunity to connect socially with peers and instructors. It's a safe space to engage with one another in a different manner than they typically do in other parts of their lives. 

And, of course, it's an opportunity to just have FUN!

Cohesion Dance Project is a nonprofit dance production company based in Helena, Montana, whose mission is to create engaging performances and integrated educational experiences that enrich, inspire and unite the community through dance. 

Since its founding in 2012, Cohesion has grown, diversified and flourished, providing contemporary dance training for community dancers, professional artists and people living with disabilities. Cohesion stages multiple integrated professional performances each year and conducts school and community outreach events through movement arts education and adaptive dance classes for youth and adults with disabilities. 

Typical classes provide creative outlets using imaginative prompts to move through "sharp energy" or "soft movements." Instructors also provide tools like bean bags, scarfs and ribbon wands to help students express themselves.
