Our organization is led by a diverse and talented group of professionals. They provide our governance, and they graciously volunteer their time, knowledge, skills and expertise each month. They keep us focused on our mission – helping people live independent lives – and each one of them has excelled in their respective fields. Simply put, they are considered the best of the best in Montana (and beyond).
Basically, our board members inspire us to be better, to achieve greater things and hopefully they’ll inspire you too. This month’s story is part of a series that features our board members and the reasons they choose to support our cause.
This month, we feature Jon Bennion who just recently joined our board. Jon lives outside of Helena, Montana, and comes to AWARE with many years of experience in law and government relations.
Jon, originally born in Billings, is a graduate of the University of Montana with both his bachelor’s and law degrees. He is the author of Big Sky Politics, a book on the history of campaigns and elections in Montana, and he served for seven years as the head of government relations for the Montana Chamber of Commerce. He has also spent time working in the Attorney General’s office, eventually serving as Chief Deputy Attorney General. Currently, Jon is the government relations director for the Washington Companies.
Jon has extensive knowledge of substance use and mental health issues at the state level. He was instrumental in passing the ABLE Act to help individuals with disabilities. After having a son who was born premature and with life-long disabilities, Jon and his wife, Jessi, are very familiar with what it’s like to serve as an advocate for people with disabilities.
Needless to say, our mission rings true for Jon and his family. He is excited to be joining our board and looks forward to learning more about all the great work we do.
Jon, thank you for joining forces with our organization. Your desire to help others inspires us to achieve greater things!
