“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss
We’re so happy to promote literacy among the youngest of children at our Early Head Start centers in Belgrade, Billings, Butte and Helena.
The new Inchy book vending machines installed at each of these centers are just one way AWARE’s Early Head Start programs are encouraging children and parents to read.
Installed in September, the Inchy book vending machines are now ready for the children to use their hard-earned golden coins.
A BIG thanks goes out to Crowley Fleck for donating the books.
As you enter each center, it is hard to miss the vending machines chockful with a wide variety of age-appropriate books that were chosen by our wonderful AWARE staff.
To earn a golden coin, each child must accumulate 10 stars on their Inchy punch card. A special challenge was created by staff at the Early Head Start to do so.
Children earn stars by regularly attending school (worth two stars) and by turning in their parent activity calendar that shows they’ve worked on their monthly goals (worth eight stars).
In addition, each child is entered into a quarterly drawing for a chance to win a golden coin.
While this challenge is a way to get children reading, it also supports in-kind donations to the center when parents read to their children and support them in their monthly goals.
